Does Honey Relieve Stress and Anxiety?

Throughout this blog on we have documented the many and miraculous health benefits of honey. Honey has been proven to boost energy levels, heal open sores and wounds, ease burns, and even prevent cancer. Now, scientific research has concluded that honey may be a primary player for relief of stress and anxiety.

I don’t know about you but anytime I taste pure honey, the stress and anxiety that I feel seems to vanish. After all, there’s nothing better than a slice of warm homemade bread with Cox’s Honey signature creamed honey spread over it. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

While it’s true that the taste of the sweet liquid gold will leave you in heaven, relieving all stress and anxiety, scientists are now proving that honey may actually relieve stress and anxiety. In a study published in the February 2011 edition of the Journal of Neurophysiology, researchers tested honey on rats to see how their consumption of honey affected their anxiety and movement.

The researchers gave incremental doses of honey, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 grams per 1 kg of body mass to the rats. What they discovered was that the rats who received the higher doses of honey on a daily basis exhibited less behaviors relating to anxiety. The significance of the amount of honey given to the rat in relation to its body weight is high. It is similar to a  person weighing 130 pounds needing to consume 118 grams of honey on a daily basis, which is a lot (Raw Honey Relieves Anxiety and Stress).

Even so, the study does indicate that honey does indeed relieve stress and anxiety. So the more you replace sugars and carbohydrates with honey, the better you will feel. Research in this field is already proving truly how healthy honey is. More research needs to be done to verify the effects of honey on stress and anxiety. At present, however, studies don’t need to confirm what many people are testifying to. That a tablespoon of honey at night helps with sleep and cinnamon honey tea in the morning boosts energy levels and relieves stress and anxiety.
